Exam took place on the 2nd of May 2023 in Barcelona.
As the first surgeon in Poland (and so far - the only one) I passed the European specialization exam in the field of anterior abdominal wall reconstruction (FEBS AWS).
The exams are held annually during the Congress of the European Hernia Society (EHS).
So far, only about 50 surgeons worldwide have passed the exam.

Prof. Śmietański Hernia Center
Since 2021, I have been working at the Prof. Śmietański Hernia Center. Together with the Professor, we perform a full range of reconstructive procedures on the anterior abdominal wall. As a Reference Center, we deal with the most severe and complicated cases. Additionally, the center also serves an educational and research function. We regularly conduct training for surgeons wanting to improve their skills and publish findings presenting the results of our research.
Range of procedures
- inguinal, femoral, umbilical, linea alba, and Spiegel hernias - procedures using both traditional and laparoscopic methods
- abdominal hernias, including postoperative and parastomal: extensive defects of the abdominal wall. Procedures using the latest implants (meshes) with mobilization of fascial flaps according to Ramirez, TAR. Implantation of implants under the rectus abdominis muscles, underlay, onlay.
- postpartum abdominal wall insufficiency syndrome (PPAWIS) with correction of the abdominal wall (removal of the skin-fat apron)
As the only center in Poland, we routinely prepare patients for abdominal wall surgeries and reconstructions of large hernias by injecting the lateral abdominal muscles with botulinum toxin A.
General Surgery
- removal of the gallbladder (cholecystectomy) due to gallstones, polyps, inflammation, and appendectomy
- resections within the intestines, stomach, including for oncological reasons. Right and left hemicolectomy, sigmoidectomy, anterior rectal resection.

- procedures for creating nutritional fistulas
- bypass anastomoses
